Building Your Collection: Researching, Archiving, Protecting

Building a meaningful art collection is a purposeful and directed long-term commitment. This seminar will help you learn to effectively research, evaluate, and select artworks, with the goal of creating a cohesive collection of your own. Join David Lenhardt, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Phoenix Art Museum, as he discusses the process of building an art collectionthrough research and art-selection techniques. Allison D. Gee, M.A., A.S.A, AM ISA of Allison Gee Fine Art Appraisals will share best practices for organizing and maintaining an inventory of artworks, as well as properly archiving and insuring your collection as part of an estate and financial plan.

Allison Gee Fine Art Appraisals

Allison D. Gee of Allison Gee Fine Art Appraisals is an Accredited Senior Appraiser through the American Society of Appraisers and an Accredited Member, International Society of Appraisers. She is designated and tested in Fine Arts and has served private, public and corporate clients throughout Arizona and the U.S. since 2001. Ms. Gee earned a Masters of Art in Art History from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona. She also graduated with a Certificate in Appraisal Studies in Fine and Decorative Art from the University of California, Irvine. She is a Past President of the Phoenix-Metro Chapter of A.S.A and also served on the Board of the local chapter from 2002-2005.

David Lenhardt is Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Phoenix Art Museum. An acclaimed Valley collector for 16 years, David and his wife Dawn established the Lenhardt Contemporary Art Initiative in 2017, representing a significant and comprehensive investment in the growth and visibility of contemporary art collecting, education and exhibition at Phoenix Art Museum. Mr. Lenhardt is the former President and CEO of PetSmart, Inc., the leading pet food and supplies retailer, which is headquartered in Phoenix. David also serves on the boards of Casey’s General Stores, Dogtopia and Phoenix Children’s Hospital. He received a B.A. in government, magna cum laude, from Cornell University and a M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College.

This program has been accepted by the CFP Board. CFP professionals may earn 1.5 CFP Board CE hours for successful completion of the program.
